About This Festival
Held every spring in the magnificent courtyard of Paro Rinpung Dzong, the Paro Tshechu is one of Bhutan's most celebrated and spiritually significant festivals. Over several days, monks and lay dancers perform sacred Cham dances that honor Guru Rinpoche and retell ancient Buddhist legends through movement, masks, and intricate costumes. Families from across the Paro Valley arrive dressed in their finest traditional attire, creating a vibrant, colorful crowd. The highlight is the early-morning unveiling of the enormous Thongdroel, a sacred silk appliqué believed to bestow blessings just by being seen.
