Cross the kingdom's longest suspension bridge (180m), trek through oak, pine, and rhododendron forests, and pass through traditional villages of Limukha, Chhungsakha, and Samtengang with their stone farmhouses and terraced fields. Visit the sacred Lutshokha Lake and Dargyel Gompa, a historic site associated with Drukpa Kunley, with views of Jomolhari, Kang Bum, and Tiger Mountain on clear days.
Trek 12km (4 hours) starting near Punakha Dzong and crossing Bhutan's longest suspension bridge (180m) over the Pho Chhu River. Climb through terraced fields into cool pine and oak forests. Reach panoramic viewpoints for Jomolhari, Kang Bum, and Tiger Mountain views on clear days. Descend to Limukha village (1,980m) known for traditional farmhouses. Trek 14km (5 hours) with short steep climb through oak and rhododendron to a ridge. Descend into narrow valley crossing small streams. Climb to Dochen La pass with views toward Dochula, distant snow peaks, and sacred sites of Talo and Nobgang. Long descent past traditional houses and historic Dargyel Gompa associated with Drukpa Kunley. Camp near Chhungsakha village lhakhang (1,550m). Camps are carefully chosen for their beauty beside alpine lakes, under the watch of ancient glaciers, or in sweeping highland pastures and meadows.
Trek 13km (5 hours) descending to suspension bridge over Bae Chhu River (1,500m). Steady climb through villages and cultivated terraces offering glimpses of rural Bhutanese life. Pass Samtengang High School, one of the region's oldest. Continue through narrow gorge to sacred Lutshokha (Tsho Shokha) Lake. Camp in quiet pine forest clearing (1,830m). Camps are carefully chosen for their beauty beside alpine lakes, under the watch of ancient glaciers, or in sweeping highland pastures and meadows.
Trek 3-4km (3 hours) descending through agricultural fields and forested slopes with sweeping views into Dang Chhu Valley. Final opportunity to observe village life with stone houses, grazing cattle, and terraced fields. Reach road at Tika Zam bridge marking trek completion. Drive to Punakha or Phobjikha for onward journey.
