A captivating short trek perfect for winter months, journeying through western Bhutan's enchanting landscapes from Punakha Valley across the scenic Sinchula Pass (3,315m) to the serene Kabjihoka Tsho Lake. Trek through diverse forests of pine, oak, and rhododendron, enjoy glimpses of Jomolhari, Kang Bum, and Tiger Mountain on clear days, and visit the historic Chorten Ningpo Monastery with its connection to Drukpa Kunley, the Divine Madman.
Drive from Thimphu through Dechencholing and Kabisa village. Trek 11km (6-7 hours) starting at Chambina meadow (2,665m) along Chambina River. Ascend through pine forests to Barnakepa meadow (3,135m). Continue to Sinchula Pass (3,315m) marked with prayer flags and ancient chorten - panoramic views of Punakha and Wangduephodrang valleys. Descend to Dushipang riverside camp (2,320m). Camps are carefully chosen for their beauty beside alpine lakes, under the watch of ancient glaciers, or in sweeping highland pastures and meadows.
Trek 12km (6-7 hours) descending through subtropical forests with wild ferns and bamboo groves. Cross Gedhothusazam suspension bridge and pass through Tongzhingnang village with traditional stone houses. Climb through moss-covered forest to hidden pass marked by stone chorten. Descend through switchbacks to Margay meadow (2,070m). Arrive at pristine Kabjihoka Tsho Lake (2,050m) surrounded by forested slopes. Every pass crossed and every valley descended carries a cultural story that deepens your experience far beyond the trail.
Trek 11km (4-5 hours) returning through Margay meadow and descending into Tabatsa swampy meadow. Gentle ascent through subtropical forests with wild orchids and flowering plants. Pass through Kabisa Village to Chorten Ningpo Monastery (home to 40 monks) with ancient oak tree connected to Drukpa Kunley, the Divine Madman. Scenic drive to Punakha Valley for trek completion. Every pass crossed and every valley descended carries a cultural story that deepens your experience far beyond the trail.
