One of Bhutan's most rewarding high-altitude adventures, also known as the Jomolhari Loop. Follow the classic route to Jangothang base camp beneath Mount Jomolhari (7,326m), then loop westward through the remote Soi Yaksa Valley via Bhonte La Pass at 4,890m, the trek's highest point. Enjoy sustained views of Jomolhari and Jichu Drake (6,714m), visit the sacred Tshophu Lakes with their mountain reflections, and spot blue sheep grazing on rugged slopes throughout this pristine wilderness circuit.
Drive to Sharna Zampa trailhead. Trek 22km (7-8 hours) through Jigme Dorji National Park along the Paro Chhu river valley. Pass through blue pine forests and cross wooden bridges. Camp at Soi Thangthangkha (3,610m) in a wide meadow surrounded by mountains. Camps are carefully chosen for their beauty beside alpine lakes, under the watch of ancient glaciers, or in sweeping highland pastures and meadows.
Trek 19km (5-6 hours) ascending gradually through yak pastures with spectacular views of Mt. Jomolhari emerging. Cross glacial streams and pass yak herder camps. Arrive at legendary Jangothang base camp (4,080m) with Jomolhari and Jichu Drake towering above. Camps are carefully chosen for their beauty beside alpine lakes, under the watch of ancient glaciers, or in sweeping highland pastures and meadows.
Rest and acclimatization day at Jangothang. Optional hike to the sacred Tsho Phu twin lakes with stunning mountain reflections. Watch for blue sheep on surrounding slopes. Enjoy spectacular views of Jomolhari (7,326m) and Jichu Drake (6,714m) peaks throughout the day. Trek 16km (7-9 hours) - the most challenging day. Climb steeply to Bhonte La Pass (4,890m), the trek's highest point with breathtaking 360-degree Himalayan panoramas. Descend into the remote and secluded Soi Yaksa Valley. Camp at 3,800m in pristine wilderness. Camps are carefully chosen for their beauty beside alpine lakes, under the watch of ancient glaciers, or in sweeping highland pastures and meadows.
Trek 11km (4-5 hours) ascending to Takhung La Pass (4,520m) with continued mountain views. Descend through alpine meadows to Thombu Shong camp (4,200m). Watch for Himalayan wildlife including blue sheep and various bird species. Camps are carefully chosen for their beauty beside alpine lakes, under the watch of ancient glaciers, or in sweeping highland pastures and meadows.
Final trek 13km (5 hours) crossing Thombu La Pass (4,320m) before descending through rhododendron and pine forests back to Sharna Zampa trailhead. Drive to Paro to celebrate trek completion with hot shower and celebratory dinner. Every pass crossed and every valley descended carries a cultural story that deepens your experience far beyond the trail.
